Report: Lee Ryder confirms key Newcastle winger out for 2 months in fresh injury blow

The Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder has confirmed on his official Twitter page that Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie will be out for at least two months with a shoulder injury in what is a fresh injury blow to Steve Bruce’s team.

The Scottish international has featured in three of the Magpies’ five matches so far in 2020/21, as per Transfermarkt.

Looking at the statistics that Ritchie managed to record in the Premier League last season, the 31-year old won a rather impressive 3.7 of his duels per match, and also averaged 1.8 key passes as well as 1.5 clearances and 1.2 tackles per game, according to Sofascore.

Indeed, he is a viable option for Newcastle in both a defensive and attacking sense, and so losing him for at least two months will come as quite a big blow to Bruce.

His experience is also key in the dressing room as well as on the pitch, but the Magpies look like they will be missing that for at least the next few games as they look to progress through the Carabao Cup and gain more points in the Premier League.

Newcastle’s next match is away at League Two side Newport County in the Carabao Cup fourth round before they play Sean Dyche’s Burnley at St James’ Park in the league on Saturday, when they will be looking to build on the four points that they have already accumulated from their first three games in the top flight.

Geordies, how big of a blow is losing Ritchie? Comment below with your views!
