Sports'Made clear they were interested' - £1.35m-valued international confirms Glasgow Rangers snub
New Anderlecht signing Bogdan Mykhaylichenko has claimed that he turned down an offer from Glasgow Rangers before leaving Zorya Luhansk to move to Belgium.
Mykhaylichenko joined the Belgian outfit for €500,000 (£457,000) earlier during this transfer window, and he has already made a positive start to the new campaign after assisting one goal in his first six league matches. He is also a Ukraine international, having appeared twice for his country.
The left-back was speaking about his decision to move to play under Vincent Kompany, and in doing so he spoke about the other offers he received. He explained:
“There was quite a lot of interest in me this summer.
“Rangers made clear they were interested in me so that was an option and so were Werder Bremen, but Anderlecht were the most persistent.”
This does to seem to be a bizarre move from Steven Gerrard and co. In all fairness, the interest may have been before they completed the signing of Calvin Bassey, but he was signed at the start of June – that would hardly have given the Gers enough time to make an inquiry about the £1.35m-valued 23-year-old – as per Transfermarkt.
He also did not complete his switch to Anderlecht until the end of July – almost two whole months after the Bassey deal. With Borna Barisic and the former Leicester City youngster available on the left side of the defence, it seems a move for Mykhaylichenko would have made very little sense.
