'Stupid thing to say', 'Can't defend that' - Many Villa fans react to key figure's comments
Many Aston Villa fans have reacted to Dean Smith’s post-match comments on VAR after his side beat Crystal Palace 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Midlands outfit needed all three points on Sunday at Villa Park as they welcomed Roy Hodgson’s Palace side and an impressive double from Trezeguet saw them do just that.
A first win since the Premier League restart sees Villa remain in the bottom three and continue in the battle for top-flight football.
Involved in the game was two VAR incidents which saw Mamadou Sakho have a goal chalked off for the visitors and Jack Grealish have a penalty decision go against him after colliding with Patrick van Aanholt.
Smith, who has largely been vocal about the use of VAR, has revealed his comments on the matter, questioning why Jonathan Moss was in charge of the system for Villa’s game after giving the controversial Bruno Fernandes penalty against Villa in midweek.
Many fans have reacted to Smith’s comments, with one suggesting it was a ‘stupid thing to say’ and questioning why referees should be stopped officiating games because of previous mistakes. Meanwhile another questioned Smith trying to defend Grealish after what looked a pretty clear dive.

Stupid thing to say. Why would referees be stopped from officiating games involving the same teams just because of previous bad decisions? It was a shocking decision mind against ManU.

It’s crazy how he gave a penalty for exactly what he over ruled today
