Report: Coventry clinch deal for 4-goal ace who won promotion this year

Coventry City have confirmed the the permanent signing of Callum O’Hare on a free transfer, as per their official website.

The Aston Villa academy graduate saw his contract come to an end at Villa Park in June, leading to discussion over a potential return to Coventry, having spent the 2019/2020 campaign on a season-long loan with the Sky Blues.

With Mark Robins’ side gaining promotion to the Championship, O’Hare was seen as a key part of the starting XI, scoring four goals and providing seven assists in the process.

Robins, who masterminded that promotion, has already been busy in the summer transfer window, bringing in Gustavo Hamer from PEC Zwolle and Julien Dacosta from Chamois Niortais. O’Hare is now the third signing of the summer for the Sky Blues, penning a three-year contract with Coventry.

Robins welcomed O’Hare back to the club’s Ryton training ground on Wednesday morning before revealing his thoughts on the midfielder’s return.

“We are delighted to welcome Callum back to the Club,” the manager told Coventry’s official website.

“Callum has been one of our main transfer targets as we prepare for the Championship campaign, and we’re very pleased to have fought off competition from other clubs to secure his signature.

“We know what great attributes Callum has and the quality he can bring to the side, as he showed in his contribution to our League One winning campaign. He is a popular member of the squad, and I know fans will welcome his arrival.

“He is a player who is continuing to develop as a footballer, and we look forward to him being part of our squad on a permanent basis.”

This should be an excellent move for Coventry and O’Hare. The young midfielder was excellent last season, chipping in with his share of goal contributions for the League One winners, and became an integral part of Mark Robins’ side.

Robins is getting his transfer business done early as he embarks on a Championship stint with the Sky Blues and he seems to have made three good additions in Hamer, Dacosta and now O’Hare on a permanent basis.
