Report: Arsenal ace with club EPL record linked with move to La Liga giants

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been in the media a lot lately as speculation around his contract situation continues. The striker is contracted to Arsenal until next summer but some reports suggest that he could be on his way out in the upcoming transfer window.

The Sun reported on Tuesday that the forward is keen to leave the club and join La Liga giants Barcelona. The captain is not the Catalan club’s main priority, although they see him as a Plan B if they cannot sign Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez.

The La Liga side do not have the funds available to offer Inter a £65m plus Junior Firpo deal for Martinez or even match his £100m release clause, per The Sun.

Aubameyang has scored 20 goals in his 33 Premier League appearances this campaign and, were it not for him, Arsenal would have been a lot worse off than they are, even as they sit ninth in the Premier League. This emphasises how important he is for them and Mikel Arteta should be doing everything possible to keep him at the club.

He is also now their captain after Granit Xhaka’s antics against Crystal Palace earlier this season and therefore a key figure at the Emirates Stadium, another reason as to why he would be a huge loss to the Gunners if he were to leave.

Aubameyang has become the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League goals in Arsenal’s history, and he has been a great forward for the club, with 64 goals in his time with the Gunners, so he would be very difficult to replace if he goes.

Aside from the void that he would leave by departing, it would also be a sign that Arsenal struggle to hold onto their star players and may not bode well for the future.

Gunners fans, do you think Aubameyang will stay? Comment below with your views!
