Dyche makes one change, £13.05m-valued ace comes in: Burnley predicted XI v Liverpool [Opinion]

Burnley have the chance to seize the initiative in the race for Europa League places this afternoon, although it would require them giving the runaway Premier League champions a bloodied nose.

Sean Dyche’s men will aim to pull off what 17 other clubs have failed to manage this season and that is deny Liverpool a league victory at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp’s side chasing down a divisional record points total as well.

However, with Burnley in action before the four teams immediately above them in the table, they have an opportunity to stake their claim for Europe, particularly with Tottenham and Arsenal facing each other tomorrow and at least one of them set to drop points.

The Clarets go to Liverpool with a depleted squad, though, as Ben Mee, Jack Cork, Matthew Lowton and Ashley Barnes are all ruled out through injury (as per premierinjuries.com).

Football Transfer Tavern is predicting just the one change to Dyche’s starting XI from the team which lined out against West Ham on Wednesday:

Burnley predicted XI v Liverpool

Fresh from a superb performance in keeping a league-high 14th clean sheet of the season, Nick Pope will be in goals, while Burnley are also likely to have an unchanged back four of Charlie Taylor, James Tarkowski, Kevin Long and Phil Bardsley, a unit which could remain for forthcoming games given the potential season-ending injuries to Mee and Lowton.

Dyche could also go with the same midfield quartet that he had in the midweek win at London Stadium, which would see Dwight McNeil take the left winger role while Ashley Westwood and Josh Brownhill occupy the central midfield positions. Left-back Erik Pieters has been playing out of position on the right-hand side of midfield but he performed well in that role on Wednesday, playing one key pass and winning four tackles, and therefore could be entrusted with the same job once more.

The one predicted change to the Burnley line-up comes in attack. Jay Rodriguez unsurprisingly keeps his place after netting the winner over West Ham but Chris Wood, the Clarets’ £13.05m-valued top scorer, could come in for his first start since March, having appeared as a substitute in their last two games upon returning from an Achilles problem. That would see Matej Vydra drop to the bench at Anfield.

Burnley fans, is this the line-up that you expect to see for the match against Liverpool? Comment below with your views!
