Arteta makes 2 changes; £46.8m-valued man dropped: Arsenal predicted XI v Liverpool - Opinion
Arsenal were on a run of five games without a loss, but their good form came to an end at the hands of their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-1 defeat at the weekend.
This now sees them sit ninth in the division, and with only three games left to go, it is very likely that the Gunners might not qualify for Europe. Since the return of football, the games are coming around fast, which could be a good thing as Arsenal can put the derby defeat behind them quickly.
However their next fixture sees them come up against champions Liverpool, so it is as tough as they come and Mikel Arteta will need to have his team selection perfect if he wants to get anything out of the match. Here is the TT predicted XI which sees the Spaniard make two changes to the starting eleven.
Emiliano Martinez was one of a few players who could be happy with his performance after the Spurs game, and his 7.7 rating per SofaScore was the best out of the Arsenal squad, which should fill Arteta with a lot of confidence before the Liverpool match.
Sead Kolasinac had a very poor defensive display, as his mistake led to Spurs’ equaliser whilst he also received a 6.2 rating, which was the lowest on the pitch, per SofaScore. However the fact that Arteta plays the natural left-back in a central position highlights that he rates him more than the reserve central defenders at the club, so it looks like he will keep the Bosnian in the starting eleven.
Meanwhile news continues to circulate around Hector Bellerin’s future, with the latest update coming from The Daily Mail, who believe that the right-back wants to leave the club as he is unsatisfied. Therefore, Arteta could use Cedric Soares if this is true as he will not want players in the starting eleven who are not putting in the desired fight to push up the league.
Alexandre Lacazette’s goal was Arsenal’s best highlight from their last fixture, and with such a big game against Liverpool coming up, Arteta can’t afford to drop the in-form striker. Meanwhile Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will continue to start, but Nicolas Pepe was very average against Tottenham, picking up a 6.7 rating from SofaScore.
This could see the manager drop the £46.8m-valued man and give Bukayo Saka a start. Dropping him in the North London derby was a weird decision in the first place as the 18 year-old had scored one and assisted one in his last two games before the Spurs match, per WhoScored.
