Report: Portsmouth set to miss out on transfer for 18-goal striker

Portsmouth look set to miss out on Dunfermline striker Kevin Nisbet who is expected to remain in Scotland after a whole host of clubs showed interest.

Kenny Jackett’s side have been monitoring the prolific striker over the course of 2019/2020 season and a potential move had developed after seeing him score 18 goals in 25 games in the Scottish Championship before the pandemic saw the season ended.

Nisbet, who was born in Glasgow, joined Dunfermline last summer after having a handful of spells with the likes of East Stirlingshire, Ayr United, Dumbarton and Raith Rovers.

Declaring their interest in the young striker, Portsmouth have also been joined by a number of Scottish sides looking to seal his signature.

Impressing in Scotland’s second tier and with said offers to remain in his homeland, it is now claimed by The News that the youngster is keen to remain close to home rather than move to England.

Pompey boss Jackett is keen to bring in a new striker ahead of what could be a return to the Championship, facing Oxford United in the League One play-off semi-final in the coming weeks.

Nisbet has impressed in the Scottish Championship this term, but you have to wonder how far his talent can go and if he would impress at a high level.

Perhaps a spell in the Scottish Premiership would be better for the youngster before a move to English football.

Portsmouth have a massive chance to gain promotion to the Championship and Jackett may be better suited to bringing in more experience if they are to take on the challenge of England’s second tier.

Do you think Nisbet would have been a good signing for Portsmouth? Let us know in the comments section below…
