Report: Newcastle takeover boosted as advisor linked to Manchester City gets involved

Newcastle United have possibly been handed a major boost in trying to get the proposed takeover over the line as the New York Times have reported that the adviser to the Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan is going to be serving as a broker in Saudi Arabia’s bid to try and buy the Tyneside club.

As per the outlet, Ali Jassim, who is a close business associate to Mansour, has emerged as a key player in the discussions to sell the Magpies to the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Documents that were reviewed by the publication showed that Jassim joined forces to try and edge the sale of the club closer to the sovereign wealth fund in Saudi Arabia for a fee believed to be close to £350 million.

The chairman of the fund and the country’s crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) is one of the key players in Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabia-led consortium alongside the London-based billionaire Reuben brothers that are trying to take over from Mike Ashley at St. James’ Park.

Indeed, the prospective bid is yet to be finalised as the would-be owners still have to pass the owner’s and director’s tests set out by the Premier League.

However, Jassim, who is based in Puerto Rico, will join forces with Staveley to try and get the deal over the line.

As the takeover of Man City went through, some members of the Toon faithful may find this to be a potential boost in the hope that they can witness the same result with theirs.

The help of Jassim may help this given his proven track record, but a lot can still change until this saga finally ends.
