Report: Amanda Staveley takeover bid of Newcastle given potential boost as news emerges

The proposed takeover of Newcastle United by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group has been potentially given a boost as news emerged from ChronicleLive that rival bidder Henry Mauriss has been told that he must produce a five per cent deposit in order to officially enter the race to take over from Mike Ashley in the North East.

As per the outlet, the American businessman has emerged as a possible other suitor in terms of becoming a new owner at St. James’ Park, but the buyers on Staveley’s side of the £300 million deal still remain confident that their bid will officially be accepted by the Premier League.

There is also a feeling from the consortium, which also includes the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) and the billionaire Reuben brothers based in London, that the emergence of Mauriss in the takeover war will count for little to nothing if their own bid can finally be accepted by the English top flight.

Mauriss, who is chief executive of Clear TV, has verbally offered a rather large sum of £350 million, £50 million more than the deal agreed with Staveley’s consortium, in order to try and combat the rival group and get himself into the door of the Magpies.

However, the American will have to pay a deposit first before any kind of new deal to be struck, which may give Staveley’s group an advantage as they have already struck a deal with the Toon at a cheaper price.

Still, everything is all speculation up to this point as both parties await the approval of England’s highest division.
