'Desperate', 'I'm done', 'Don’t you dare' - Many CPFC fans fume as source shares managerial news
Crystal Palace have opened talks with Swansea City manager Steve Cooper, and a number of Eagles supporters have been sharing their frustration at the news on social media.
According to Football Insider, who have been informed by a Palace source, Cooper is now the leading contender to take over from Roy Hodgson. The report claims that the 41-year-old has ‘wowed’ Eagles chiefs in an interview, with negotiations taking place this weekend.
Swansea are now looking at replacements for Cooper, who could reportedly be appointed at Palace soon. Reports have suggested previously that he would cost any club around £4.5m in compensation for his services, but it seems as if Palace are happy to cough up the cash judging by Football Insider’s update.
The 41-year-old led England to Under-17 World Cup glory four years ago and took Swansea to the Championship play-off final last month. However, he has never managed at top-flight level, whereas recent Eagles candidate Lucien Favre boasts huge experience across major European leagues, so Cooper may seem a significant step down by comparison.
Palace fans react
@cpfc_xtra shared the latest news on Cooper on Twitter over the weekend. These Palace fans weren’t exactly thrilled at the update, with one even mentioning the idea of refunding his season ticket for the upcoming campaign.
“Desperate times”
“I’m done”
“Don’t you dare”
“No no no no no”
“What’s the policy on refunds for season tickets..?”
“Couldn’t imagine a worse appointment”
