Tottenham huge late boost confirmed as 'update from Mourinho' emerges
Sharing an ‘update from Mourinho‘ on Twitter, journalist Rob Guest relayed what could be brilliant news for Spurs as their clash with Man City looms this afternoon – with winger Steven Bergwijn back from injury and available for contention to start.
The Dutchman, who suffered from fitness issues heading into the contest, being sent home from international duty amid reports of a groin injury, has spent the last two weeks recovering and is now available for selection against the Sky Blues – coming as a huge late boost with Spurs now gifted that extra option.
Bergwijn boost
Gareth Bale could be more likely to start in his place after impressing on international duty and slowly making his way back to full fitness, with Lucas Moura also apparently turning heads with his performances in training.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, in light of this team news, now has three right wingers to choose from ahead of City to compliment the devastating partnership of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.
Lilywhites could arguably be leaning towards a second-successive Premier League start for Bale, but the fact Bergwijn is now an option for Mourinho with his lightning pace could be good news.
Transfer Tavern take
City will be aiming to dominate possession and force Spurs to sit back, with Mourinho arguably looking to counter attack against the run of play and exploit any gaps on the break.
Bergwijn’s return could only help Tottenham in that regard, and he may be a worthy option to have if Bale needs to come off at some point over the 90 minutes.
