'Thought Steve Walsh had snuck back in' - Plenty of Everton fans slam 'absolute joke' comments

Plenty of Everton fans have been slamming some comments made by John Ebbrell on the the club’s player academy.

As per the official website of the Merseyside club, the new Head of the Toffees Academy talked about his role in coaching the youngsters and outlined the goal that Carlo Ancelotti’s team has upon training them to get into the first team:

“We want to align all age groups in what we do.

“My main task is to make sure there is consistency, certainly from Under-12 to Under-23, which feeds into what the first team needs.”

However, some EFC supporters have taken these comments with a pinch of salt as they perhaps feel as if the Academy has not been run very well over the last few years.

Indeed, only Jonjoe Kenny, Tom Davies, Anthony Gordon and Ellis Simms have been named in the first team squad by the Toffees in the 2020/21 term having come directly from the Academy, with only 12 senior appearances so far this season between the four of them.

Everton fan reaction to Ebbrell comments

These Blues slammed the comments made by Ebbrell on Twitter, with one fan even claiming that he ‘thought Steve Walsh had snuck back in’, who is generally not liked by some of the Everton fanbase, while another called them an ‘absolute joke’:
