‘I can see that deal getting done’ – Celtic tipped to wrap up deal for ‘dangerous’ ace in 2021
Former Premier League defender Danny Mills predicts that Celtic will wrap up the permanent signing of Mohamed Elyounoussi.
Mills has faith in Elyounoussi signing
The 26-year-old went into the international break on the back of scoring a superb hat-trick during their 4-1 victory against Motherwell.
However, the Southampton loanee came under fire after he was caught on his mobile phone as his side lost 4-1 to Sparta Prague in Europa League, and the Hoops are yet to pick up a win on the continent this season (via BBC Sport).
The Norway international has accumulated some fans along the way, especially from BBC journalist Tom English, who enjoys the “dangerous” element about his game (cited by This is Futbol).
Recent reports suggested that the Bhoys would have to pay £10m to secure his services in January, but Mills believes that they could wait until the summer.
“I think when Elyounoussi returns from his loan at the end of the season Hasenhuttl will have a think about whether he’s better than what they’ve already got at Southampton,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ll think, ‘Can we afford to move him on and possibly bring somebody else in and use that money elsewhere?’.
“Southampton are a very well-run club, they’re still very, very frugal and careful in the way they do business.
“I can see that deal getting done with a permanent move. That would work for Celtic, that works for the player and it works for Southampton.”
Transfer Tavern take
While it would be ideal for Celtic to tie down the services of Elyounoussi, Mills has a point in terms of the way that the Premier League outfit carry themselves out in the market.
Neil Lennon will have to be patient with this one. The Saints will not let him go on the cheap and Peter Lawwell will need to play his cards right.
That being said, signing the Norweigan permanently will be a huge boost to the squad, and a morale lifter that could help them close the gap to Rangers in their pursuit of ten-in-a-row.
In other news, Celtic tipped to bring ‘phenomenal’ 6 ft 6 talent to Parkhead.
