Huge win for 'dynamic' Portuguese figure could have big effect on £13.5m-valued Gers star
Luis Campos has won his boardroom battle at Lille, which could have a big impact on the future of Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.
Campos and Morelos futures affected
The Ligue 1 side were heavily linked with the Ibrox outfit’s star forward. In fact, the £13.5m-valued Colombia international (Transfermarkt) was even said to have agreed personal terms ahead of a move which failed to materialise.
Campos was the driving force behind Lille’s interest in Morelos during the summer. There were rumours that the Portuguese star scout could leave the club, but instead it is director general Marc Ingla who will be leaving. As such, Morelos could still be on the French team’s radar in the future.
What next?
Campos is somewhat of a legend in scouting circles. Called “dynamic” by Jose Morais, one of Jose Mourinho’s assistants at Real Madrid, whilst Campos’ protege Ali El Omari says he “has a gift”. Campos certainly thinks a lot of himself, calling his work at Monaco a “masterpiece”.
As such, it is huge praise for Morelos that Campos would like to take him to France. His record at Ibrox speaks for itself – he has 84 goals in 154 matches for the club – and at 24 he has plenty of time ahead of him in his career. The Gers reportedly want £20m for the former HJK Helsinki man, so it is up to Lille to match that fee. With Campos still at the club, though, that could well be a possibility.
In other news, Rangers fans were delighted with this man’s display on international duty.
