‘He will give Liverpool more’ – James Pearce urges Klopp to start ‘outstanding’ prospect
Well-respected journalist James Pearce said that he would like to see Neco Williams start for Liverpool as they face off against Leicester City tomorrow.
Pearce verdict
The 19-year-old has been a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad since last season, picking up a Premier League winner’s medal after the Reds won their first domestic title since 1990.
Since then, he has been playing as second fiddle to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has turned into a local legend since his introduction to the first team in 2017.
Wales boss Ryan Giggs is a big fan of Williams, describing him as “outstanding” since he picked up his first cap for the Welsh senior side (via Sky Sports).
Responding to a fan during a Q&A session hosted by The Athletic, Pearce named Williams as the player he would like to see line-up at the right-hand side of the defence.
“Looks like either Williams or Milner at right-back on Sunday,” he said. “Williams returned from Wales duty with a bruised foot – so he’s being assessed by the club medical staff.
“If he’s fit I’d like to see the youngster start as I just think he will give LFC more going forward.”
Transfer Tavern take
Pearce is right. It will be down to Williams or Milner as to who will feature against a side that has been dangerous going forward this season.
Milner could be the one that Klopp goes for, as he is effectively Mr Versatile in this Liverpool team.
With the attacking threat that the Foxes possess, Klopp will not be taking any risks as he aims to stay in touch with the teams at the top.
In other news, James Pearce provides update on Jurgen Klopp’s January window plans.
