SportsReport: Leeds make fresh approach for 6-goal starlet, could take summer spending near £100m
Football Insider have claimed that Leeds United have made a fresh approach for Norwich City attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell in the last few hours.
The 2019/20 season proved not to be a good one for Norwich as they suffered relegation to the Championship from the Premier League, but despite that disappointment, Cantwell can be relatively pleased with his individual performances, grabbing six goals and two assists in his 37 top-flight appearances.
Such performances have seen the midfielder linked with a top-flight return as Leeds continue to be linked.
With just a few days remaining before the transfer window slams shut, various claims have emerged about the future of Cantwell with Italian journalist Nicolo Schira reporting that the Canaries starlet has already agreed personal terms over a move to Elland Road.
With Leeds failing to secure a move for Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich, it now appears that the Yorkshire club are ready to make a serious attempt to sign Cantwell.
Football Insider claim that a recruitment source has informed them that the Whites are “back in” for the youngster as Bielsa looks to bring in a right-footed attacking player before Monday’s deadline.
Norwich are believed to want around £15m – £20m for the England under-21 international and discussions are now said to be taking place.
This move makes sense for both Leeds and Cantwell. The promising midfielder has plenty to offer and it would be unjust if he played a full season in the Championship with Norwich.
Having already spent £79.38m on the likes of Diego Llorente, Rodrigo Moreno, Helder Costa, Robin Koch, Illan Meslier and Joe Gelhardt – it looks likely that Bielsa will go near the £100m mark with a move for the 22-year-old.
Just Sunday and Monday remain for a deal to be done but with personal terms reportedly done and dusted, a fee seems just the final agreement to be made.
