SportsReport: Everton star welcomes new signing who outperformed him in one key stat last term
Jordan Pickford is understood to have welcomed the signing of Robin Olsen at Everton, per the Liverpool Echo.
As per the outlet, the Sweden international could help raise standards at training and put pressure on the 26-year-old to deliver as the first-choice goalkeeper at Goodison Park.
Pickford has received the full backing of Carlo Ancelotti since the Italian arrived as manager last December and he is understood to retain the support of the backroom staff and his teammates.
Olsen arrived on loan from AS Roma for the rest of the 2020/21 season and will surely look to push the 26-year old for a starting place.
Pickford makes a lot of errors
Indeed, Pickford has made his fair share of errors during his time in goals for the Toffees. The goalkeeper was culpable for four mistakes which led to goals in the Premier League last season (Sofascore).
Olsen is less error-prone than Pickford
Olsen is not as error-prone as Pickford, as the Sweden international made zero errors leading to goals while playing in Serie A last term, duly outperforming the Englishman in this key aspect.
Pickford still has his qualities
However, Pickford is arguably more comfortable on the ball than Olsen, as he averaged a higher number of accurate passes (18.7) per match in the Premier League last season compared to the 30-year old’s 15.4 in Italy’s top flight, and also averaged more touches of the ball (40.7) per game to Olsen’s 35.2.
Pickford has also averaged 2.8 saves a match in the league so far in this campaign, so he may be confident of keeping his place ahead of Olsen.
