'Let him start', 'Brilliant' - Many EFC fans praise outcast, 'always a better player' than Gomes

Gylfi Sigurdsson has had a mixed time at Everton, but the Toffees’ latest post has some fans calling for his reinstatement into the starting XI.

The Iceland international was signed for a club-record fee of £45m in 2017 after scoring 27 goals and providing 25 assists in three Premier League campaigns with Swansea City. Six goals and five assists in all competitions during the 2017/18 campaign was a slow start, but he returned to his best the following term, managing 14 and seven respectively.

Last time out, though, he was a shadow of his former self, seeing himself involved in just six goals in 38 games. The Everton supporters were far from happy with him – when it was suggested he could depart for MLS side DC United during the previous transfer window, the Toffees faithful were delighted.

However, it seems they may have completed a U-turn. On Monday, Everton’s official Twitter page shared a video of the 31-year-old scoring against West Ham in 2019. That led to many supporters showing support for Sigurdsson, with one fan even calling for him to start against Southampton next weekend. Another, meanwhile, has suggested he should be in the side ahead of Portugal international Andre Gomes.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about Sigurdsson
