Former Liverpool ace Jamie Redknapp believes Chris Wilder deserves the Manager of the Year accolade over Jurgen Klopp.
Writing for his column with the Daily Mail, the ex-Anfield icon has been waxing lyrical about both managers, but feels the Blades boss has had the more impressive season.
“Jurgen Klopp will go down in history as one of the greatest managers ever. Deservedly so, too,” Redknapp wrote. “But there is only one Manager of the Year for me, and that is Chris Wilder of Sheffield United.”
The 47-year-old admitted he and other ex-professionals like Peter Crouch tipped the Blades to be relegated at the end of this season. On the contrary, Wilder’s side are currently seventh in the table, ahead of Premier League giants Tottenham and Arsenal. They are just five points adrift of a top four finish, meaning Champions League football is a possibility next campaign.
Loads of Liverpool fans have responded to Redknapp’s comments (relayed via @AnfieldEdition) and feel his take is incorrect. One supporter feels this kind of opinion is why he is ‘one of the worst pundits on TV’ as they clearly think with all that Klopp has achieved this season, he should be lauded as Manager of the Year.
