'They'll just get over the line' – TT predicts huge Merseyside derby result

With the Premier League now back in full swing, focus shifts to runaway leaders Liverpool and the question of when they will be crowned champions.

With Arsenal failing to come away with a win against Manchester City, hopes of securing the title at Goodison Park are no longer a possibility for the Reds. However, victory against their bitter rivals will mean Jurgen Klopp’s side can wrap up the title on home soil next week by simply getting a win over Crystal Palace.

As it stands, Everton are 12th in the league table but are just seven points off Europa League-battling Sheffield United. Their transformation under Carlo Ancelotti has been head-turning and the Blues have a very good chance of securing European football next campaign.

The Merseyside derby is always a cagey and entertaining affair, so we at Transfer Tavern have given our predictions on how the clash between red and blue will unfold…

Georgia Goulding (0-2)

Liverpool no longer being able to win the league at Goodison won’t be an issue for Klopp and his men. For them, this season is simply about winning their first Premier League title, not how quickly they can do it. Nevertheless, they will want to make a statement upon their return, but rust may have gathered following the long hiatus. For me it’s a win, but not in typical blistering Liverpool fashion.

Liam Togher (1-2)

Liverpool have often found Goodison Park a tough nut to crack in recent years and will probably do so again this time around. History suggests that it’ll be another draw but the Reds have a happy knack of finding a way to win these challenging away games and I think they’ll just get over the line in this one… maybe with another late goal.

Adam Clancy (1-3)

Everton have lots of injuries in midfield, so Liverpool will be looking to dominate in that area. Although the title will not be won, the Reds will want to make a statement ahead of the Crystal Palace game. Given their recent record in Merseyside derbies too, I can only see a Liverpool win.

Jonathan Radcliffe (0-2)

This promises to be a Merseyside derby like no other – one without fans.

Following Manchester City’s 3-0 win against Arsenal, this will not confirm Liverpool’s inevitable title victory in itself, but a win here would put them just three points from glory.

Everton have a terrible record against their city rivals – they have now gone 21 games in all competitions without a victory, and given the Reds’ form this season, as well as what is on the line, it is hard to see anything other than a Liverpool win. The only hope for the Toffees is that they catch Jurgen Klopp’s men cold, but it is hard to see that occurring.

Luke Seychell (1-3)

With the Premier League within their grasp and no other competitions to distract them, Liverpool will want to claim the title as soon as possible, and I can’t see anything but a win for Klopp’s side.
