A lot of Chelsea fans are preparing to see the back of Olivier Giroud following the signing of Timo Werner.
The deal for the German was finalised at last earlier this week, with the RB Leipzig star looking to link up with his new side in July. Chelsea signed Werner for £53million after snatching him from under Liverpool’s nose (via Daily Mail).
Despite supporters being thrilled to see the newest addition to the team, many are predicting an exit for Giroud. Following a training photo the club uploaded, certain comments can be seen bidding the Frenchman farewell.
Chelsea signed Giroud in 2018 from London enemies Arsenal as Michy Batshuayi left on loan to join Dortmund (via BBC Sport). However, since his arrival, the 33-year-old has been limited to just 49 Premier League appearances, in which he has netted seven goals (via Transfermarkt). Tammy Abraham has cemented himself as Frank Lampard’s first choice, which has left Giroud falling down the pecking order.
Reports linking the frontman to a Stamford Bridge exit have been circulating, but no formal offers have been made for the France international.
However, despite the calls from Blues fans, Giroud actually only signed a new contract keeping him at the club for next season back in May (The Guardian). It would be a surprise therefore to see the club sell him, regardless of Werner’s arrival.
