4-3-3 again for Graham Potter: Brighton's predicted line-up v Arsenal [Opinion]

Brighton return to Premier League action this afternoon as they welcome Arsenal to the Amex Stadium for their first game since 7 March.

The Seagulls were in a worrying run of form before the coronavirus-enforced stoppage of the season, without a league win in 2020 and victorious in just of their last 14 games in the division. However, they have the chance of doing the double on the Gunners, having beaten them 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium back in December. [via TransferMarkt]

Graham Potter’s team have the chance to turn up the heat on relegation rivals West Ham, Watford and Aston Villa, all of whom are beneath them in the table and play after the Seagulls, who will go five points clear of the relegation zone with a win today.

The good news for the Brighton boss is that he has a near-fully fit squad at his disposal, with long-term injury victim Jose Izquierdo the only confirmed absentee (as per The Argus). By contrast, Mikel Arteta will have to contend with several injuries and suspensions, particularly in defence, when selecting his Arsenal XI for today’s clash.

Potter has changed his formation with regularity throughout the season and the 4-3-3 setup he employed in Brighton’s last match against Wolves was somewhat successful as the Seagulls earned a valuable point away to the European chasers at Molineux. Based on that result, he could decide to stick with the team and formation that served him well.

Goalkeeper Mat Ryan will almost certainly preserve his ever-present status in this season’s Premier League into a 30th game and there is a strong chance that he will have a familiar-looking back four ahead of him.

The quartet of Martin Montoya, Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk and Dan Burn have all started 21 or more Premier League matches this term, with Potter having a clear idea as to his preferred defensive setup. However, it is not implausible that the likes of Shane Duffy or Tariq Lamptey could feature, with the manager hinting that the latter could be given first team chances in the coming weeks.

Brighton had a three-man midfield of Aaron Mooy, Davy Propper and Yves Bissouma in the goalless draw against Wolves and Potter could go with the same unit once more. Should he elect to change it up, Dale Stephens and Pascal Gross seem likeliest to come in, with the former back to full fitness following a groin problem just before the league was suspended.

Potter could also keep faith with a front three of Solly March, Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard. The French centre-forward is bound to start given his status as the Seagulls’ top scorer, with one of his eight goals this season being the late winner against Arsenal six months ago. In terms of substitutes, the manager could also turn to Glenn Murray, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and the fit-again Aaron Connolly.

Brighton fans, do you think this could be the line-up that Potter chooses or would you make some changes to it? Have your say by commenting below!
