The ‘main priority’ for the summer for Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is to bring in a backup striker, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Lowdown: Lack of strikers
Harry Kane remains the only senior striker available for selection at Spurs. Whilst rumours have emerged linking additions in the past, Daniel Levy has failed to sign a backup for this role.
As a result, the England captain has started in every game bar one under the Italian manager.
The Latest: O’Rourke’s claim
According to The Telegraph, Conte wants to sign six new players during the summer window, and O’Rourke believes that the Lilywhites boss will be prioritising a striker in the upcoming market.
Speaking with GiveMeSport, the journalist claimed: “Their striker situation has been ongoing for a while now. They didn’t bring one in the summer to provide cover for Kane and Son, so a striker is definitely a main priority.”
The Verdict: Depth is needed
Tottenham currently sit in fifth place, just two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, in the Premier League table, so they are likely to be playing some sort of European football next season.
However, with the lack of options at Conte’s disposal in attack, the north London club may struggle with fatigue and injury whilst having to juggle playing in four competitions at once.
If anything were to happen to star man Kane, the manager would be left with a huge problem in the final third, so it is imperative that Fabio Paratici secures a backup striker in the summer.
