Michael Bridge expects Vieira to miss out on 30-goal Crystal Palace-linked striker
Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge believes Crystal Palace will be priced out of making a move for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.
Patrick Vieira, who was appointed as the Eagles’ new boss earlier this month, is looking to build a youthful squad at Selhurst Park and has already welcomed highly-rated duo Marc Guehi and Michael Olise from Chelsea and Reading respectively.
Abraham, who has netted 30 times for the Blues, has fallen out of favour since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard as Chelsea head coach in January, with the England international frontman making just seven appearances since the German’s appointment.
Although Palace have agreed a new two-year deal with Christian Benteke, who was previously set to be out of contract this summer, Vieira is thought to be seeking reinforcements in the attacking department.
Palace were linked with Abraham in June by The Sunday World, and he has been attracting interest from a host of clubs, with West Ham United thought to be leading the race.
Bridge feels Palace will be unable to meet Chelsea’s financial demands.
He told The Transfer Tavern: “Tammy Abraham would certainly tick the boxes. However, I think Chelsea would ask for quite substantial money for him, which Palace will not have after spending a lot of money over the last few weeks.
“It would have to be a loan, with a big fee. I don’t think Chelsea would take it. I think Chelsea would probably end up getting a big offer somewhere else.
“I get the impression Tuchel is not a massive Abraham fan, but I still think they’ll get a lot of money for him.”
