Key update emerges as Premier League club eye up move for 'unbelievably important' Liverpool ace
West Ham have reportedly opened talks with Divock Origi regarding a potential £15m move away from Liverpool this summer.
The Lowdown: Origi a bit-part player
The Belgian has enjoyed a curious Reds career, scoring some huge goals, including one in the 2019 Champions League final win over Tottenham and being hailed as ‘unbelievably important’ by Jurgen Klopp.
However, he has been increasingly on the fringes at Anfield, playing just 182 minutes of Premier League action in the whole of last season.
That means a summer exit could be on the cards, and a fresh development has emerged regarding the 26-year-old’s future.
The Latest: West Ham open talks
According to Football Insider, West Ham have started ‘preliminary talks’ with Origi as they eye up a £15m move for the striker.
The Hammers are thought to be working on a ‘cut-price’ deal for the Belgium international, hoping that Liverpool are willing to accept that amount, with the Reds originally demanding £20m but latterly revising their asking price.
The Verdict: Right time to move on
Origi will always be appreciated by Reds supporters for the impact he has made in key moments – massive goals against Spurs, Barcelona, Everton and Newcastle all stand out – but it is time for him to move on.
Too often in recent years, he hasn’t offered nearly enough in attack, scoring just seven league goals in the last three seasons.
With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino all undoubtedly ahead of Origi in the pecking order, it is hard to see where regular playing time will come for the Belgian moving forward.
