"I can't see the logic" - Exclusive: Pundit stunned by Crystal Palace contract decision
Marcus Bent has exclusively told The Transfer Tavern that he’s been left confused by Crystal Palace offering Christian Benteke a new deal.
Following three-and-a-half wretched seasons in front of goal, the Belgian, who’s out of contract this summer, appeared on course to part ways with the south London outfit and become a free agent.
However, following a flurry of goals towards the end of the season, Benteke was rewarded with a two-year contract.
Benteke ended up reaching double figures for just the second time in Palace career, although 40 percent of those came in his final four games.
His goal record at Palace stands at an uninspiring 33 goals in 146 appearances, 17 of which came during his debut season at Selhurst Park.
Despite Benteke’s contract extension, Patrick Vieira is still reportedly hoping to add to his strike department, with Tammy Abraham a name that’s been heavily linked.
Bent, who questioned Benteke’s lack of goals for Palace, told The Transfer Tavern:
“He’s inconsistent, I can’t see the logic in that. He did well for Aston Villa, but he hasn’t really done anything for Crystal Palace, and his goalscoring tally is dead for me.”
