'He got lucky last season', 'Get a grip' - Many Rangers fans fume at 29 y/o after shock defeat
A number of Rangers supporters have been critical of captain James Tavernier following their shock 1-0 defeat to Dundee United on Saturday.
The Gers were looking to continue their winning start to the Premiership season but they came unstuck in surprise fashion at Tannadice. Steven Gerrard’s champions were beaten 1-0 by Dundee United, with Jamie Robson’s second half strike the difference between the two teams.
It means that Rangers’ remarkable 40-match unbeaten streak in the league has come to an end, with a response now swiftly needed.
Tavernier has been a superb performer in recent years, being the Gers’ top scorer last season despite playing as a right-back, but he wasn’t at his best on Saturday and spoke candidly about the loss after the game, also looking ahead to Tuesday’s crucial Champions League qualifier against Malmo.
The 29-year-old won just three of his eight duels against the Tangerines on Saturday, misplacing 15 passes and finding a team-mate with only three of 11 crosses. He also lost the ball 28 times, at least ten more than any other Gers player. [Sofascore]

“Tavernier is no captain. He got lucky last season. Armband should have been passed to Davis. It’s a shame he’s getting to the end of his career. Bring in Ali McCann, get him up to speed“

“As captain Tav needs to be able to pick his team up mid-game but that never happened in either of the games this week which is disappointing. Get a grip of your players and give them a shake“
