'Absolute no brainer': BBC pundit lauds 'amazing' news at Spurs that's left Paratici 'delighted'

BBC pundit Alan Hutton has been left lauding the new contract given to Son Heung-Min by Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lowdown: Son earns new deal

As confirmed on their official website, Son has signed a new four-year deal at Spurs, which will keep him in north London until 2025.

Fabio Paratici was quoted to be ‘delighted‘ with the deal, and Son claimed that it was ‘easy’ to sign a new contract with the Lilywhites.

The Latest: Hutton reacts

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton, a pundit who used to play as a right-back for the Lilywhites, has lauded the new deal given to Son, and even went as far as to claim that tying him down is like a new signing in itself:

“It’s like a new signing, give him what he wants.

“Daniel Levy, open your chequebook and what does he want? Because he’s that important.

“The bigger question is will Harry Kane stay, will he leave? Son, you have to keep because if Kane left and Son wanted to go, there’s a real problem there.

“Those two were the real reason Tottenham were where they were last season. I don’t want to say Tottenham did so well because they didn’t. If they weren’t playing, Tottenham would have really struggled.

“Absolute no brainer, give him what he wants, keep him there because you know what he’s going to give you. He’s going to give you an eight, nine or ten out of ten every week.

“It was important they signed him down to a new deal. They’re probably hoping keeping the likes of Son, getting Dele Alli back to his best, hopefully Kane would say: ‘Right we’re moving in the right direction.’

“I think it shows a good sign. Ultimately for Tottenham, it’s an amazing signing. It’s probably like having a new signing.”

The Verdict: Great business

It certainly is nothing short of great business by Tottenham to tie Son down to a new deal.

The South Korea international enjoyed such a good individual 2020/21 season, scoring no fewer than 22 goals and making a further 17 assists in 51 games in total over all competitions, mainly operating from the wing (Transfermarkt).

Adding another four years onto his contract also means that if Spurs were willing to sell him in the future, then his value will be sky high, and so they could demand a large fee that could then be reinvested into the squad.

Nonetheless, the Lilywhites will want to keep the 29-year-old at the club for as long as possible so that he can keep working his magic for them.
