Hands off: Bruce wants to keep 'immense' £75k-per-week forward at NUFC amid PL rival's interest

According to Alan Nixon, Crystal Palace are interested in a move for Newcastle United centre-forward, Dwight Gayle, upon this expiry of his contract.

The Sun journalist Nixon (via Chronicle Live) claims that, with Gayle’s Newcastle contract due to expire at the end of this season, the 31-year-old, whom former teammate Kyle Bartley has previously dubbed as ‘immense‘, is in ‘no rush to go on loan’ in January, but the possibility of a return to Crystal Palace in the summer remains a possibility.

However, despite having only played 60 minutes of Premier League football over four appearances so far this season, as well as the fact The Sun (via The Boot Room) report that the striker earns a whopping £75,000 per week at Newcastle, The Chronicle claim that Bruce is ‘keen to keep Gayle on Tyneside’.

Transfer Tavern Take

As previously stated, with Gayle only featuring four times in the Premier League so far this season, with a further three appearances being made in the the domestic cup competitions, it would appear a rather strange that Bruce really does want to keep the player at the club, as he’s hardly picked him all year.

In addition, with The Sun claiming that the forward earns £75,000 per week at St James’ Park, this is a considerable amount of money that could easily be spent elsewhere, which only further adds to the mystery as to why Bruce would want to retain the services of the barley used £7.2 million-rated forward.
