Gerrard and Gers eye bargain move for 'outstanding' 13-goal forward

According to The Daily Record, Glasgow Rangers have declared their interest in signing Aberdeen forward Scott Wright.

Wright on radar

The Gers are said to be interested in a move for the 23-year-old, whose contract at Pittodrie will run out at the end of this season.

The Ibrox outfit are eager to complete a pre-contract agreement that would see Wright move to Glasgow as a bargain in the summer, but Aberdeen believe they can agree a deal to be completed this January, either including a transfer fee or a player swap.

Bizarre target

It is not exactly clear why Rangers would be interested in signing Wright. He has scored twice and provided five assists in all competitions so far this campaign, but he has only started 10 of his side’s 21 Premiership matches this term, indicating that he is not a guaranteed started for his current club. Derek McInnes is a fan, though, previously calling him “outstanding”.

On a free transfer, a deal would perhaps be good value for the Gers – after all, they could sell him on for some sort of fee in the future. He has also displayed versatility throughout his career to date. However, 13 career goals is surely not the level the 54-time Scottish champions are targetting. Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard must do better.
