'Won't make it' - Steve Bruce deals major Newcastle blow ahead of Chelsea clash
Steve Bruce has dealt a major blow in the hopes of Newcastle United beating Chelsea in the Premier League tomorrow lunchtime as he has ruled out Ryan Fraser playing any part in the clash at St. James’ Park.
Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference, the former Sunderland boss said: “Ryan Fraser won’t make it for Saturday but Callum Wilson has a chance. If there’s any risk whatsoever then he won’t play but he has trained the last few days and was very comfortable yesterday. He wants to play.”
Indeed, given just how well both Fraser and Wilson link up with each other, going back to their days spent at AFC Bournemouth, their understanding of each other’s game may well have been able to unlock the door against Frank Lampard’s team, who have conceded just one goal in their last six matches in all competitions.
Fraser is a creative force
Indeed, there is no doubt that the creativity that Fraser offers could have been vital in the hopes of the Tyneside club getting all three points against one of the traditional ‘big six’ sides in the top flight.
In the 2018/19 term for the Cherries, the Scotland international made no fewer than 14 assists, exemplifying his eye for a key pass.
With the likes of Jeff Hendrick not exactly being a fan favourite of the Toon Army at this moment in time, given that the Republic of Ireland international has not scored or assisted a single goal since the opening day of the season, perhaps the supporters would have liked to have seen Fraser come in to play against the Blues.
However, the 26 year-old has been ruled out of the clash in what is a major blow for the Magpies’ creative threat going forward.
