'Turning into Michael Owen', 'Starting to get concerned' - Many LFC fans react to Thiago verdict
Many Liverpool fans took exception to comments made by club legend John Barnes about Thiago Alcantara.
Cited by the Daily Star, the former Kop hero believes that the Spanish midfielder, who won the Champions League with Bayern Munich last season, is “not necessarily” one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s team sheet, even before he contracted coronavirus and suffered the injury he picked up against Everton (via TransferMarkt).
Thiago impressed during his 45-minute debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the campaign, where Klopp described him as the “perfect player” for his team.
During his time in Germany, he scored 31 times from 235 appearances and has gone on to appear 39 times for Spain since 2011 (TransferMarkt).
Unsurprisingly, supporters took exception to Barnes’ comments, believing that he has “lost the plot” as one fan even admitted they are “concerned” about the legendary former player.
