Sports'Not normal' - Marcelo Bielsa drops big claim on £19.80m-rated 'perfect' ace
Leeds United face a tough task this weekend as they face Arsenal in the Premier League. It won’t be the easiest way to recover from two 4-1 losses, but what could definitely help them is the return of Kalvin Phillips.
Marcelo Bielsa has teased that he could possibly be fit for the match and piled praise on the impact of the Englishman. However, he also dropped a rather big claim about their performances without the star midfielder.
What Bielsa had to say about Phillips
Speaking via the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bielsa said: “Without Phillips we played the best game we’ve played since I’ve been manager (at Villa), but in the same manner Phillips is a player that brings something to the team in every way.
“He is a player with a big capacity to recover the ball. He’s a midfielder who is able to find passes which are not normal for someone.”
The midfielder is vital for Leeds
The English midfielder has had an impressive start to life in the Premier League. The 24-year-old has been a menace for opposition attacks, averaging 3.4 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, and 1.2 clearances (WhoScored) per game before the injury.
The three games that Bielsa has been without the midfielder in the Premier League have seen the Whites concede eight goals. Meanwhile, when he featured, the club only conceded six goals in five matches (Transfermarkt).
Neil Redfearn’s previous praise for Phillips may be the best summary of his excellent traits, as he said: “He is the perfect build for that position, a powerful player but also has a fantastic range of passing.”
It’s no surprise Bielsa rates the £19.80m-rated (Transfermarkt) man so highly and if he comes back against Arsenal it will be a huge morale boost for the squad.
