SportsReport: Spurs rule out permanent deal surrounding ‘unbelievable’ star after Alasdair Gold claim
According to an update from German news outlet Bild, as relayed and translated by Sport Witness, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is rejecting any proposals to take defender Ryan Sessegnon on a permanent deal, including loans with an option to buy.
Sessegnon, who has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Jose Mourinho this season, is now on the loan list as Spurs look to free up potential squad space, but Tottenham are rejecting any offers to sign him on a permanent deal now or at the end of a temporary agreement.
Bundesliga duo Hertha Berlin and RB Leipzig would ‘gladly‘ take the option to sign him for a fee at the end of 2020/21 but Levy has allegedly made it clear that such a move is a no-go.
Signed for £25m from Fulham last summer, the ‘unbelievable‘ 20-year-old enjoyed a fine start to life in north London after scoring against Bayern Munich on his Champions League debut for the club.
Thereafter, Sessegnon didn’t exactly get a chance to shine under Mourinho, starting just four Premier League matches over the entirety of last season, with Ben Davies much preferred.
Now, as Spurs look to trim squad space for one more potential new arrival, the youngster has been deemed as a player who could be sacrificed, coming after Alasdair Gold’s recent claim that he is now available and that the club will listen to loan offers.
This is arguably a smart move by Levy and co – Sessegnon was a heavy investment in 2019 and, at the tender age of 20, could still have a bright future for Spurs in the left-back slot.
Sergio Reguilon’s transfer includes a generous Real Madrid buyback clause, while Davies is approaching his prime, so having more options from which to choose in future certainly shouldn’t hurt.
