SportsReport: Huge excitement building over pending Wolves departure
As one Portuguese player in Diogo Jota leaves Wolverhampton Wanderers, it looks as if another one is about to follow him out the exit door, according to reports in Greece.
Ruben Vinagre is the man that is the centre of attention right now, having been linked with a move away from the Molineux in recent weeks.
This could soon become a reality, which is what media based in Southeast Europe are saying. To10 (via Sport Witness) could not contain themselves as they revealed that Vinagre was on the verge of joining Olympiakos on a season-long loan.
In a rather astonishing statement, they said that the 21-year-old’s move to Erythrolefki is the “icing on the cake” of their summer business, adding that this is one of the best transfers ever made in Greek football.
His loan move to the Karaiskaki Stadium will include an option to buy of €25m (£22.6m), that could be taken advantage of if he performs at a high enough level for the 45-time Greek title winners.
To say that he is one of the best transfers in Greek football history is a bit of an outlandish statement to make by any stretch, especially concerning a player who only made 16 Premier League appearances last season.
Having been involved in two of Wolves’ opening three games this season, it looked like the Portugal U21 international may have had a long-term future at the club. That now looks like it’s not the case.
Either he is not in Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans or Vinagre himself doesn’t feel he will get the opportunity in the West Midlands that he may feel he deserves, especially once Jonny Otto returns from injury.
Nevertheless, Vinagre is heading to play for a Champions League club. On a personal level, it will be a good move for him that will benefit his development, and maybe he will justify the excitement as he heads to replace new Liverpool man Kostas Tsimikas.
