Sports'I'm fully committed' - 101-goal Sunderland ace pours cold water on potential departure
Sunderland striker Will Grigg has revealed his commitment to the club despite reports of a potential summer exit.
Former Wigan Athletic striker Grigg arrived at Sunderland back in January 2019 in a move that was heavily documented on Netflix series Sunderland Til I Die, but the 28-year-old has struggled to live up to his transfer fee of £4m.
With the 2019/2020 season now ended seeing Sunderland miss out on a promotion place, finishing eighth, a number of changes are expected to be made and it was reported recently that the club would listen to offers for Grigg.
The striker, who is valued at just over £1m by Transfermarkt, scored once and gained one assist during the 2019/2020 season.
However, despite those links, Grigg has now spoken of his commitment to the cause, speaking in a recent interview with talkSPORT.
“I’ve got two years left on my contract, so I’m fully committed.” ✅
“At League One level, I’d play in any team and score goals.” ⚽️

“Yeah,” he said, when asked if he saw himself having a future at the Stadium of Light.
“I’ve got two years left on my contract and I’m fully committed to that. Until I’m told otherwise, I’m a Sunderland player.
“I’m looking forward to going back,” he continued.
“It’s obviously a massive club and I want to see what I came there for.”
Since arriving at Sunderland, Grigg has struggled to make an impact so his words on his ability to score goals do come as a little surprise.
Whether or not boss Phil Parkinson can rely on the striker to lead the line next term is up for debate, but fans will surely be leaning towards a potential summer sale.
Indeed he has netted 101 times in the third tier so he may be worth one last chance, but few of those have come for the Black Cats and his form over the last couple of years has certainly deteriorated.
