Long before Jose Mourinho arrived at Tottenham Hotspur to clean up Mauricio Pochettino’s mess, it was Martin Jol who laid the groundwork for the club fans all know and love today.
The popular Dutchman, who has managed the likes of Ajax, Fulham and Hamburger SV throughout his long career so far, arguably changed the Lilywhites’ fortunes forever during his time at White Hart Lane.
Jol spent over three years in charge of Spurs, taking the club to the top end of the Premier League, before finally being replaced by Juande Ramos in 2007.
It is fair to say the manager never had it easy in north London, and while he might not get the same recognition as other famous faces like Pochettino and Harry Redknapp, he definitely deserves his place in the history books.
