Phil Hay delivers message on Leeds’ January transfer plans following embarrassing FA Cup loss
Leeds United’s suffered an embarrassing loss to Crawley on the weekend which may have highlighted that the club needs to strengthen the depth of their squad. On the back of the shock defeat, Phil Hay has discussed their transfer plans for January.
The latest on Leeds
In one of his latest articles for The Athletic, Phil Hay said: “The club’s position in the table is so healthy that Sunday’s events are not expected to alter their attitude towards this transfer window. Leeds do not envisage any significant arrivals and most of their business will revolve around loan bids for their youngsters.”
Is this good or bad news for the club?
It is pretty normal for the club to not do too much business in the January transfer window ever since Marcelo Bielsa took charge. The fact that this approach has seemingly not changed highlights that the manager is happy with his current squad.
The Argentinian, who was nominated for ‘The Best FIFA Men’s Coach’ in 2020, should be trusted by all associated with the club. He has got Leeds back into England’s top flight, where they sit 12 points clear of the drop (SofaScore). Therefore, it is understandable to see why he isn’t planning to do too much during this transfer window.
It will also be good to see some of Leeds’ young stars go out on loan, so that the club can see how they perform playing senior football, which could help them decide whether they think can make it at Elland Road in the near future.
