'A formality' - David Ornstein shares huge update on 'fantastic signing for Spurs'
Writing on Twitter, The Athletic journalist and transfer correspondent David Ornstein has provided an update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Swansea City defender Joe Rodon.
Rodon, who emerged as a key target for Spurs on deadline day in the international transfer window, with Sky reporting that a deal was ‘close’, is now at the centre of negotiations as both the Lilywhites and the Swans attempt to agree a last-minute fee.
Ornstein’s Rodon revelation
As reported by Ornstein, Swansea are holding out for £15m, a climbdown from the previously-touted figure of £18m, although Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is still only willing to fork out around £10m.
Swansea want around £15m for Wales centre-back Joe Rodon if they‘re to sell. Tottenham want to pay about £10m for him. If clubs can agree fee, personal terms would be a formality. Discussions ongoing ahead of 5pm domestic transfer deadline @TheAthleticUK #Swans #THFC #DeadlineDay

Given Spurs managed to secure deals for Sergio Reguilon and Matt Doherty in the summer market for relatively modest price tags, as both are established defenders on the biggest stages in football, Levy is unlikely to pay over the odds for a Championship ‘one to watch for the future’ (Alasdair Gold).
As a result, Tottenham are now attempting a last-minute deadline day bid to lower his price tag, but while the fee is still yet to be agreed, Ornstein claims that personal terms could at least ‘be a formality‘.
Transfer Tavern take
Lauded as a would-be ‘fantastic signing for Spurs‘ by their former goalkeeper Paul Robinson, the news that personal terms could be swiftly agreed may spark hope for a very late move for Rodon..
As the two clubs are locked over the negotiating table, all that remains is settling on a compromised fee – and given Spurs’ noteworthy deals over the summer, you can hardly rule it out.
